Timberwolves Pull Giant Upset, Secure Road Win Over Heat
The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Miami Heat, 129-126, at American Airlines Arena on Wednesday evening.

The Timberwolves (17-40) moved to 10-19 on the road with this win, while the Heat (36-22) fell to 23-4 at home. Minnesota and Miami delivered a tight game from start to finish, but the Wolves got themselves on top by one after the first 12 minutes of action following a first-quarter score of 29-28. The Heat wouldn't stand pat, however, and they turned things around with a 32-28 second quarter that pushed them up by three at the break. The Timberwolves bounced back in the second half, however, and won both quarters on route to a huge upset. Minnesota won the third quarter by a 38-34 score, so they entered the final 12 minutes of action up by just one point. They would hold on to the result, though, and a 34-32 final quarter sealed the win for good. The Timberwolves shot an impressive 51.6 percent from the field, while the Heat made 52.6 percent of their shots. The biggest difference came on volume shooting from deep, as Minnesota made seven more triples than the Heat.

Star point guard D'Angelo Russell led the way for Minnesota since he ended with 27 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals and one block. Malik Beasley had another strong showing and delivered 21 points, six rebounds and five dimes. Juan Hernangomez made the most of his start, and posted 17 points with five boards in 31 minutes of action. Jordan McLaughlin notched 13 points and five assists off the bench, while both James Johnson and Kelan Martin added 11 points as substitutes.

Jimmy Butler had 18 points (4-10 FG, 10-11 FT) in his return to Minnesota, but he was the team's third-best scorer. Kendrick Nunn led the way with 24 points and six assists, while Bam Adebayo had another strong effort with 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks in 33 minutes.
