Mavs Hang On For Second Straight Win
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the host New Orleans Pelicans, 123-116, at Smoothie King Center on Friday evening.

The Pelicans got out to a scorching start with a 41-27 lead after one quarter, however, the Mavericks answered in the second by outscoring the hosts 45-23, to take a 72-64 lead into halftime. The Pelicans came out strong again in the third quarter and managed to cut the deficit to just two by the start of the fourth. The Mavs had an answer as they quickly built a 10-point lead but the Pelicans kept attacking and tied it up at 109 with 4:30 to go. The Mavs used a 6-0 run to pull ahead again and did not look back en route to closing out their second win of the season.

Luka Doncic led the Mavs with a triple-double of 25 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Kristaps Porzingis added 24 points, five blocks, four rebounds and three assists, while Delon Wright added 20 points off the bench. The Mavs shot 48 percent from the field, including 14-of-40 from deep. They limited themselves to 11 turnovers and only gave up nine second-chance points. They also tallied 28 fast-break points and 20 points off turnovers.

Meanwhile, Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting, in 31 minutes. Four other players scored in double figures for New Orleans, but the Pelicans fell short as they shot 46 percent from the field, including 15-of-41 from long range.

The Pelicans (0-2) will look to bounce back as they take on the Rockets in Houston on Saturday. The Mavericks (2-0) play host to the Trail Blazers on Sunday.
