Spurs Host Magic on Saturday
The Orlando Magic travel to Texas to face the San Antonio Spurs at AT&T Center on Saturday.

The Magic (27-32) come into this matchup winning five of their last six games and that has put them in a great spot to secure themselves a playoff berth. In fact, they now sit four games up on the Washington Wizards in ninth which is quite the margin for a 21-win team to make-up. What they do need to do is get out of that eight-seed though, currently tied with the Brooklyn Nets for that spot. No one wants to face the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the playoffs and that's exactly the difference between seventh and eighth. The thing that's really impressive about this Orlando team is their defense, allowing the fewest points in the NBA. That statistic would shock a lot of people but it's a testament to how much this team has grown on that end of the floor behind guys like Markelle Fultz, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic.

The Spurs (24-33) are also doing all they can to reach the postseason, sitting 3.5 games back of the Memphis Grizzlies for eighth in the Western Conference. The one major issue with that is the fact that Portland, New Orleans, Sacramento and Phoenix are all within striking distance as well. That's a lot of teams fighting for one spot and the Spurs have arguably one of the worst rosters of the group. Not having LaMarcus Aldridge makes that roster look even thinner and he'll be out for this matchup with a reoccurring shoulder issue. It's been tough for this team to compete with Aldridge and it's up to DeMar DeRozan and Dejounte Murray to carry the load in his absence. This is a franchise who's made the postseason in 20-straight seasons but it's going to be an uphill battle to keep that going this year.

Orlando won the first matchup between these teams, 111-109, on November 15. If San Antonio wins here, that will mark the fourth-straight season split between these clubs which followed up a 10-game winning streak by the Spurs.
