Scores miracle win in Toronto
WelterweightUFC
January 20, 2024
Magny defeated Mike Malott via TKO (punches) at 4:45 of Round 1 at UFC 297 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Entering as the second-largest underdog on the entire card at +300, Magny was mere seconds away from a certain defeat. He showed nothing for two-plus rounds before somehow finding himself in a dominant position on the mat against a totally gassed Malott. Magny, an absolute professional, took full advantage. He rained down countless unanswered blows from a variety of different positions. Referee Kevin MacDonald was more than generous in allowing Malott to work through it, but Magny finally closed the show. Not competitive in a unanimous decision loss to Ian Garry last August, Neil somehow puts himself right back on the fringes of contention with this upset win.

Booked for UFC 297
WelterweightUFC
October 18, 2023
Magny will fight Mike Malott at UFC 297 on Jan. 20, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Magny dropped his last fight to Ian Garry via unanimous decision and has gone 5-5 across his last 10 bouts. He hasn't lost consecutive fights since 2013, though that streak could be in jeopardy as he faces Malott, who has yet to take a loss in the UFC.
Not competitive in loss
WelterweightUFC

Magny lost to Ian Garry via unanimous decision (26-30, 26-30, 24-30) at UFC 292 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Magny has made a career out of working his way into fights and taking them over but could never find his way past the range to land anything effective. Garry also did an excellent job at breaking away whenever "The Haitian Sensation" attempted to clinch, which resulted in the two fighters staying at range. Magny simply couldn't handle the leg kicks of Garry, as he was taken off his feet multiple times and was struggling to walk by the end of the third frame. Magny's role has been pretty well defined at this point as a gatekeeper to the top-10 at welterweight, but he may need to go back to the drawing board after being so thoroughly handled in this one.

Magny will fight Ian Garry in a welterweight bout at UFC 292 in Boston on Aug. 19, according to MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Garry was supposed to fight Geoff Neal, but the latter withdrew because of medical reasons. Magny has volunteered to step in Neal's place on less than 10 days notice and is trying to build a winning streak after defeating Phil Rowe via split decision at UFC on ABC 5.
Gets right back in win column

June 24, 2023
Magny defeated Phil Rowe via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC on ABC 5 on Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida.
ANALYSIS
We've seen Magny struggle time and time again against top-flight competition, as we saw in his first-round submission loss to Gilbert Burns this past January, but Neil has made a living of winning fights like this against mid-tier opposition, with Rowe being his latest victim. To be fair, this fight was a close as you can possibly get. Any combination of scores would have been acceptable. Magny finished with a 109-51 edge in total strikes landed, but Rowe had a 34-29 advantage in significant strikes. Both men had north of 4:30 worth of control time. Magny's 21 victories are most in UFC welterweight history, while he ties Rafael dos Anjos, Dustin Poirier, and Jon Jones for sixth most all time in company history.

ANALYSIS
Magny, who was most recently defeated by Gilbert Burns in January, will face off with Phil Rowe in June. The 35-year-old American fighter, who currently boasts a UFC record of 20-9, will look to bounce back from his most recent loss against Rowe.
