Stays unbeaten, wins $1 million
FeatherweightPFL
October 27, 2021
Khaybulaev defeated Chris Wade via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) at the PFL Championships on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale.
ANALYSIS
Khaybulaev has a large frame for the featherweight division, and he put that to use early by controlling the clinch and grappling positions. In Round 2, he landed a clean knee that bloodied his opponent and extended his lead in the striking department. Khaybulaev opened Round 3 with a takedown and finished once again on Wade's back, landing more power shots in between to further pad his lead. The championship rounds were more of the same, with Khaybulaev dominating position and bringing his takedown total to eight. Despite this being his first five-round fight, Khaybulaev passed with flying colors while dominating from start to finish. The undefeated 31-year-old from Dagestan seems to have UFC-caliber skills, but for now, he'll at least be content to take home the $1 million prize as champion in the PFL's featherweight division. He banked wins in 2021 against Lazar Stojadinovic, Lance Palmer, Brendan Loughnane and now Wade to get there.
