Espino is set to have hand surgery that will keep him sidelined for the rest of 2019, Danny Segura of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Espino will need to take three months off before he can start training again. The former Ultimate Fighter champion has not fought since scoring a first-round win over Justin Frazier via submission last November. The 38-year-old is riding a seven fight winning streak.

Espino defeated Justin Frazier via submission (straight armlock) at 3:36 of Round 1 at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale in Las Vegas on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Espino didn't give his opponent a chance to breathe in this one, as he hit takedowns and softened Frazier up repeatedly until progressing into mount to finish the arm lock. Espino was never thought of as the favorite to win the season but he is a competent wrestler and grappler, which could be enough to make inroads at heavyweight. The issue is that Espino is already 38 years old, which is late for a fighter to be beginning their career in earnest, even in a division where competitors tend to stick around longer. He improves to 9-1 in professional MMA as a result of the victory.
