Taking on Zak Cummings in Nebraska
January 27, 2020
Sanchez (11-5-0) is scheduled to face Zak Cummings (23-7-0) in a middleweight fight April 25 at UFC Lincoln, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
Sanchez will head to Nebraska looking to rebound after he took a loss to Marvin Vettori via unanimous decision back at UFC Tampa in October. The 32-year-old owns a 4-3 record since signing with the promotion in 2016.

Two-fight win streak snapped
October 12, 2019
Sanchez lost to Marvin Vettori via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Tampa.
That'll do it for Sanchez's brief two-fight win streak. Entering as the biggest underdog on Saturday's card, Sanchez was credited with just 39 total strikes landed on 185 attempts. That is good for a paltry 21 percent, and a number that low will almost always result in a fighter coming up short. Even after taking a loss, Sanchez's record with the company is still above .500 (4-3).
Fight moved to Tampa
October 8, 2019
Sanchez's scheduled middleweight matchup against Marvin Vettori has been moved to UFC Tampa on Oct. 12.
Sanchez has won back-to-back decisions under the UFC banner, but getting his next fight has been a rocky road. He was supposed to face David Branch in mid-September, but Branch was forced to withdraw and Vettori stepped in. Vettori unfortunately had to withdraw due to illness the week of the fight, leading that matchup to be postponed. Sanchez sports superior marks in terms of volume striking to those of Vettori, but he absorbs nearly as much as he lands, which can be a problem against higher-caliber fighters. He's also used his wrestling more during his six-fight UFC tenure, but Vettori sports a 79 percent takedown defense and has also faced better competition. Sanchez closed as roughly a (+230) underdog for their originally scheduled matchup, and not much has changed since, as he sits at (+245) as of Tuesday afternoon.
Fight postponed
September 11, 2019
Sanchez's Sept. 14 fight against Marvin Vettori is being rescheduled for a future date due to Sanchez feeling ill earlier this week, Aaron Bronsteter of reports.
A date has yet to be announced but the battle will reportedly still happen, just not at UFC Vancouver this weekend.
New opponent surfaces quickly
August 1, 2019
Sanchez will now take on Marvin Vettori in a middleweight matchup at UFC Vancouver on Sept. 14, Damon Martin of reports.
Sanchez was originally scheduled to take on David Branch, but on the same day Branch's withdrawal was announced, UFC matchmakers have already set him up with a replacement opponent. Sanchez will hold an edge in striking volume over Vettori, though he does tend to get hit a bit more over his six-fight UFC tenure. In terms of grappling, Sanchez has the edge in both takedown volume and takedown defense, as "El Dirte" has yet to be taken down during his time with the company. Sanchez may not be ranked at the moment, but pushing his winning streak to three could very well land him someone in the top-15 at 185 pounds.
Needs new opponent in Vancouver
August 1, 2019
Sanchez is in need of a new opponent for UFC Vancouver on Sept. 14 after David Branch (undisclosed) will be forced to withdraw, Nolan King of reports.
Sanchez had been looking to add to his winning streak against a former World Series of Fighting two-division champion, but those plans will now be put on hold. Should he decide to remain on the card, the UFC should have plenty of time to find him a replacement with the event scheduled more than six weeks down the road.
