Being shopped by club
Brannstrom could be traded by the Senators in order to free up cap space to sign Shane Pinto, per David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
ANALYSIS
Brannstrom just signed a one-year, $2 million contract with Ottawa during the offseason but could already become a cap casualty. If the blueliner does get moved, both Jacob Bernard-Docker and Dillon Heatherington could be in contention for a call-up to the 23-man roster. Until then, Brannstrom should continue to fill out the third pairing for Ottawa where he has averaged 14:26 of ice time this season.

Brannstrom was limited to just 53 games in 2021-22 due to a broken hand. He failed to score a single goal while managing 14 assists and a minus-17 rating. An undersized rearguard whose game lacks physicality, Brannstrom isn't going to be of a ton of use to the Senators moving forward if he isn't piling up the points. Unfortunately for the Swede, Thomas Chabot is entrenched as Ottawa's No. 1 power-play quarterback, leaving the 23-year-old Brannstrom fighting for scraps with the second unit.
