The 23-year-old continued his slow but steady development last year, playing in a career-high 41 games for the Wild, but a late concussion cost him a chance to take a regular shift in the playoffs. Olofsson has some surprising wheels for a blueliner, but despite his 6-3 frame his game is more like that of teammate Jonas Brodin, as he uses his abilities to clear his own zone rather than make forays as an attacker. Olofsson will head into camp as one of a handful of young blueliners fighting for a spot on the bottom pairing, but his experience may give him a leg up on the competition.
Olofsoon got his first taste of extended NHL action last season and will compete for one of the final sports on the blue line in training camp. The Wild needs him to continue to develop into the consistent puck mover that the Wild hoped for upon selecting him in the second round (46th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Olofsson, the 46th overall selection in the 2013 draft, played just one game for AHL Iowa before suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the season. Olofsson is a plus-skater with good four-way agility. And he comes with a separation gear that's more typical of forwards than defenders. He has decent size (6-2, 190) and can engage physically, but he certainly needs to grow that side of his game. He'll likely need a full season in the AHL to prove he's healthy.
