Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

We have a full day of Game 3s starting at 12 p.m. EDT between the Bruins and Hurricanes, while the last puck will drop at 8 p.m. EDT for the Golden Knights and the Blackhawks. Both Vegas and Colorado can go up 3-0 in their respective series, while the other two contests have a 2-1 advantage to play for.

GOALIE

Robin Lehner, VGK vs. CHI ($25): It's puzzling that Lehner has the lowest salary among Saturday's projected starters, as he's won every game in August. While he's allowed three goals in three of four games and not faced a substantial amount of action, that could change in a must-win game for the Blackhawks. Look for Lehner to stand tall against his former squad, but keep an eye out for Marc-Andre Fleury ($32) starting on the first half of back-to-back contests.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Tuukka Rask, BOS vs. CAR ($37): We shouldn't discourage the candidness that Rask has shown when talking about playing in front of no fans, but it is a possible explanation for his lackluster play thus far. However, a more likely explanation is that the Hurricanes' trip to the conference finals last year wasn't a mistake, and Rask will have his hands full yet again Saturday.

CENTER

Pierre-Luc Dubois, CLS vs. TB ($19): Dubois has been a phenom in the playoffs, and especially against Tampa Bay with a goal, three assists and eight shots on net through two matchups. He showed no sign of fatigue following the 5OT game, so keep him rolling in a crucial Game 3.

CENTER TO AVOID

Derek Stepan, ARI vs. COL ($17): The Coyotes lost a second straight to the Avalanche on Friday, and Stepan posted his third consecutive pointless game. He was minus-1 in each of those contests as well. The lines were blended before Game 2, and it wouldn't be surprising if Stepan loses his first-line center role heading into a must-win Game 3.

WING

Reilly Smith, VGK vs. CHI ($21): Smith has taken his excellent regular season to another level with three goals, two helpers and nine shots on net over two games versus the Blackhawks. He's done all that work at even strength, which makes him a solid floor play because the Hawks finished ninth on the penalty kill (82.1 percent).

Warren Foegele, CAR vs. BOS ($10): The Hurricanes shuffled the lines ahead of Game 2, and that did the trick as they won 3-2. Foegele benefited the most with a promotion to the top line next to Sebastian Aho, and while he didn't come through on the scoresheet, his salary is an immense value in this scenario.

WINGS TO AVOID

Patrick Kane, CHI vs. VGK ($30): The Golden Knights have made a concerted effort to shut down Kane, and it's been semi-successful. He's notched just one shot on goal in each game so far with a combined minus-2 rating, but he managed three assists in Thursday's loss. The low shot volume is a major concern though, so it's tough to justify forking over this salary.

Carl Soderberg, ARI vs. COL ($17): Soderberg has been moved around the lineup, and as stated with Stepan, he could be shifted again. Regardless, he's been absent from the scoresheet no matter which line he's been on, as he's gone pointless in three straight games and never finished with more than 3.0 fantasy points in that stretch.

DEFENSE

Alec Martinez, VGK vs. CHI ($18): Martinez has exceeded expectations in Vegas, but his work against the Blackhawks has been unparalleled for players at this salary. He's notched two assists, three shots on goal, eight blocked shots and a plus-6 rating through just two games, so fire him up again in Game 3.

Ryan Graves, COL vs. ARI ($17): Graves has been knocking on the door all postseason, as he ranks fourth among active players with 2.98 xGF/60 through five games. He hasn't converted, but his remarkable plus-40 regular-season rating signals an intriguing floor either way.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Duncan Keith, CHI vs. VGK ($18): Keith had an impressive run in the qualifying round against Edmonton, but he's been skunked in the point column against Vegas, including a minus-4 rating in Game 1. The increased minutes don't seem to be helping enough, either, and Vegas' stout defensive game keeps his ceiling low.

Mikhail Sergachev, TB vs. CLM ($16): Sergachev doesn't log major minutes on the blue line, and the tides have turned in the Blue Jackets' favor after their Game 2 win. With Sergachev not shooting a ton or hopping in front of shots, there's risk at this salary without the benefit of a floor.
