Yahoo DFS Hockey: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Daylight Saving Time just occurred, which means you should have sprung forward last night. I hope you aren't just finding out about the fact it is an hour later than it was yesterday. There are five NHL games on the Sunday night slate. Here are the players to target, and to avoid, for your daily fantasy lineup.

GOALIE

Pavel Francouz, COL at SAN ($36): Francouz's last couple of starts have gone poorly, but he still has a 2.39 GAA and .924 save percentage on the campaign. I'm not worried, even with the Avalanche being on the road. The Sharks are playing their second game in as many days, and even at home that's not beneficial to an offense that's only scoring 2.60 goals per game.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Cam Talbot, CGY vs. VGK ($28): Talbot has gotten the last three starts for the Flames, and he's played well enough to probably earned another. And the former Oiler has outplayed David Rittich this year with a 2.63 GAA and .919 save percentage. The Flames have allowed 32.4 shots on net per game while the Golden Knights have averaged 34.3 shots on goal per contest, so Talbot might be facing a tall order.

CENTER

Luke Kunin, MIN at ANA ($16): Eric Staal is away from the Wild dealing with a personal issue, so Kunin has moved up to first-line center. That means skating on a line with Zach Parise and the red-hot Kevin Fiala. The Ducks have posted a 3.15 GAA, and John Gibson may not be available. That would mean the 39-year-old Ryan Miller and his .907 save percentage would be in net.

CENTER TO AVOID

Mikael Backlund, CGY vs. VGK ($18): Backlund is enjoying a solid season as Calgary's second-line center, but he doesn't receive much power-play time. He's averaged 1:25 per game with the extra man, so he may not be in line to take advantage of Vegas's 25th-ranked penalty kill. The Golden Knights have also been hot defensively, with a 2.71 GAA and only allowing 25.8 shots on net per contest since the All-Star break.

WING

Tyler Toffoli, VAN vs. CLM ($18): Since joining the Canucks, Toffoli has started 65.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the team. That's helped him notch eight points in eight games. The Blue Jackets have ranked as one of the NHL's best defensive teams, so normally this is not a game to target. However, this could be a favorable matchup as Columbus is on the road for the second leg of a back-to-back and Elvis Merzlikins is still out with a concussion.

Vladislav Namestnikov, COL at SAN ($13): If Andre Burakovsky is still out Sunday, Namestnikov will likely be on Colorado's top line with Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog. If not, he'll still be in the lineup against a Sharks' team on their second game of a back-to-back. Aaron Dell got the start Saturday, which likely means Martin Jones and his .898 save percentage will be in net.

WINGS TO AVOID

Timo Meier, SAN vs. COL ($18): Meier has at least managed to stay healthy for the Sharks and has tallied 44 points in 67 games. That's despite the fact he's struggled on the power play, with only five points during that situation. As for the Avalanche, they have looked good on the road with a 2.46 GAA, which ranks second-lowest in the league.

Rickard Rakell, ANA vs. MIN ($16): Rakell has been one of the least lucky shooters in the NHL the last couple of years. This season has been his nadir, as his shooting percentage has dropped all the way down to 7.8. Meanwhile, the Wild have managed a 2.47 GAA since the All-Star break.

DEFENSE

Alex Pietrangelo, STL at CHI ($23): Pietrangelo has been pouring the pucks on goal by firing 212 shots on net in 67 games. The Blackhawks have allowed 35.2 shots on goal per contest - highest in the NHL - which could make for an awfully busy night for Pietrangelo.

Ryan Graves, COL at SAN ($17): Despite their 3.18 GAA, the Sharks inexplicably own the league's best penalty kill. Graves has generated all his fantasy value while not really playing on the power play, so that's not an issue here. The 24-year-old has notched nine goals and 17 assists in 66 games while enhancing his fantasy value with 138 blocked shots.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Zach Werenski, CLM at VAN ($20): Again, this is largely because the Blue Jackets are far from home to play for a second straight night. Also, while Thatcher Demko's overall numbers aren't great, he's been a better goalie at home with a 2.81 GAA and .909 save percentage. That doesn't exactly turn him into a Vezina candidate, but it's enough to be concerned about a high-priced defenseman in a back-to-back situation.

Duncan Keith, CHI vs. STL ($17): Keith has 10 points from his last nine games, but that only gives him 25 on the season. He's also produced just two goals on 107 shots through 59 contests. The Blues come in with a 2.74 GAA, but Jordan Binnington has been even better than that recently with a 1.75 GAA and .927 save percentage over his last eight outings.
