Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

It's a measly two-game Wednesday slate. Two Original Six teams will match up when the Rangers face off against the Red Wings at Madison Square Garden, and the Blues will travel to Edmonton for their second game in as many days. The first puck drops at 8:00 pm.m ET, so read on for tips on who to start and who to sit in Wednesday's DFS lineups.

GOALIE

Henrik Lundqvist, NYR vs. DET ($29): It's been a rocky start for The King, as he's posted a 3.58 GAA so far. A matchup against the Red Wings may be the perfect remedy to get back on track. The Wings rank last in the league with 2.13 goals per game, and they've won just one of their last 12 outings.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Jake Allen, STL at EDM ($25): A couple more rough starts by Allen may force the Blues to start dipping into the minors or calling around for a new backup to Jordan Binnington. He's been a liability in the crease with an .855 save percentage and 3.72 GAA through three games. The Oilers have averaged 3.57 GPG at home this year, lining him up for more tough sledding.

CENTER

Ryan Strome, NYR vs. DET ($19): Even if Mika Zibanejad (upper body) returns to the lineup, Strome has earned additional time on the top line. Regardless, he's been producing on his own with 11 points over the last 10 outings, leading the Rangers in that span.

CENTER TO AVOID

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, EDM vs. STL ($17): Nugent-Hopkins seems to get left off of the fun Edmonton's top line has, as he's posted seven pointless outings over the last nine. His opportunities are down as well with a 48.0 Corsi For percentage, so it's better to just spend up for one of the studs.

WINGS

Leon Draisaitl, EDM vs. STL ($34): Draisaitl's scoring binge hasn't gone anywhere, as he's racked up seven goals and four assists over the past six games. He's the only winger in this slate averaging over 9.0 fantasy points per game, and he rings up at 13.3. A matchup against Jake Allen should allow Draisaitl to continue stacking up the points.

Sammy Blais, STL at EDM ($12): After notching an assist Tuesday night, Blais has eight points in 14 games -- surpassing his seven-point total through the first 43 games of his career. The 23-year-old has been an excellent surprise this year, and he may even be bumped back up to the first line where he scored twice in three games last week.

WINGS TO AVOID

Chris Kreider, NYR vs. DET ($16): Kreider is starting just 42.4 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, and he predictably has a 41.8 Corsi For percentage to show for it. His scoring's down to 0.5 points per game as a result, and he's not getting enough opportunities to turn it around.

Andreas Athanasiou, DET at NYR ($14): Athanasiou has a league-worst minus-18 rating, and just six points through 14 games aren't enough to balance that out. He's struggled to create opportunities altogether, as he has a 43.9 Corsi For percentage, and the team's been better off with him on the bench, as Athanasiou has a -9.6 relative Corsi For.

DEFENSE

Oscar Klefbom, EDM vs. STL ($20): Klefbom is the only player in the league with both 40 shots on net and 40 blocked shots, and he also has nine points in 16 games. His excellent floor makes him a solid daily play no matter who the opponent is.

Adam Fox, NYR vs. DET ($12): After going pointless over the first seven games, Fox is finding his groove at the top level with three points over the last five. Fox has the team's highest Corsi For percentage (50.4) among players who have played every game as well. His consistent power-play minutes is an added bonus, as the Red Wings rank 30th with a 62.5 percent kill rate on the road.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Colton Parayko, STL at EDM ($17): Parayko has eclipsed 3.0 fantasy points just once in the last seven games. To be fair, he's not getting a ton of opportunities with 50 percent of his shifts starting in the defensive zone, leading to a 47.0 Corsi For percentage. His power-play usage drops in value against Edmonton's dominant penalty kill (86.3 percent).

Brady Skjei, NYR vs. DET ($14): Skjei is pointless over the last three contests, and he even failed to fire a shot on net in one of those. The Red Wings haven't allowed a goal to an opposing blue line in six games, either, so Skjei's offensive slump is in line to continue.
