Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

You're under a little less of a time crunch Tuesday than Monday. There's no holiday, which means no afternoon contests. There are seven games on the NHL docket for Tuesday. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your daily fantasy hockey lineup.

GOALIE

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. ARI ($35): The Jets have lost almost all their defensemen from last season, but Hellebuyck is doing his best to keep the defense afloat. He's posted a 2.50 GAA and .928 save percentage through four starts. Last year, the Coyotes were bad offensively, and even after adding Phil Kessel in the offseason, they're averaged 1.75 goals per game.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Pekka Rinne, NAS at VGK ($36): Rinne's overall numbers don't look good at the moment, but right now you can chalk that up to one bad start against the Capitals. However, he could he headed for another rough game in a visit to Vegas. The Golden Knights have scored four goals per game this year through six contests, and they put 35.6 shots on net per contest at home last season.

CENTER

Sebastian Aho, CAR at LOS ($25): Aho only has one point, a goal, through six games. However, he's going to turn it around. The Finn had 83 points last season, and he's put 25 shots on net this year. His 4.0 percent shooting is going to improve. Los Angeles has a 5.20 GAA this year, and in the larger sample size of last year it had a 3.16 GAA.

CENTER TO AVOID

Ryan Johansen, NAS at VGK ($20): Johansen is off to a hot start to the season, but of course he's also scored two goals on the four shots he's put on net. Since their inaugural season, there has been some magic in the Golden Knights at home. Call it the Vegas flu if you will, but the team had a 2.41 GAA at home last year while allowing a mere 28.7 shots on net per contest.

WING

William Nylander, TOR vs. MIN ($19): Nylander had some struggles last year after holding out to start the campaign, but this year he's been with the Maple Leafs from the beginning of the season. Also, he's skating on Toronto's top line with Auston Matthews, which helps. Nylander has five points through six games, and he's at home against a Minnesota team that is on the road for the second game of a back-to-back.

J.T. Miller, VAN vs. DET ($18): Miller got four of his five points in a thrashing of the Kings, but there's still reason to like the winger. At the moment, he's on Vancouver's top line alongside Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, which is a great place to be. It's also nice to be going up against a Wings team that had a 3.32 GAA last season, bottom five in the NHL.

WINGS TO AVOID

Blake Wheeler, WPG vs. ARI ($26): Wheeler has six points through seven games, which is usual for him, but he's been weirdly less involved recently. He hasn't had more than two shots on goal in any of his last five contests. While Arizona's offense is bad, its goal prevention is more impressive. The Coyotes had a 2.68 GAA last year and a 1.75 GAA this season.

Zach Parise, MIN at TOR ($19): There's only one team playing the second day of a back-to-back Tuesday, and that's the Wild. Parise and crew are also on the road, which adds to the negative vibes I'm feeling about them. Frederik Andersen's numbers look poor, but they are skewed by a rough game against the Lightning. The Danish goalkeep has had a save percentage between .917 and .919 in each of his last four campaigns.

DEFENSE

Alexander Edler, VAN vs. DET ($22): Edler is playing a ton of minutes for the Canucks, as he's averaged 25:12 in ice time. He's also scored two goals on 10 shots through four games. The Wings had a 3.32 GAA last year, and gave up 33.7 shots on net per contest, which bodes well for the Swede.

Jaccob Slavin, CAR at LOS ($21): Slavin doesn't get power-play time, but he hasn't needed it so far. He's notched a point in each of his last five games. Since the Kings had a 3.16 GAA last year, it wouldn't be surprising to see him extend that streak to six.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Roman Josi, NAS at VGK ($23): There's no fault to be found in Josi as a player, though his 11.1 percent shooting this year is bound to regress. He's a top-notch defenseman, but that makes him pricey, and this is a tough matchup. I noted earlier now strong the Golden Knights were at home last year. Well on top of that Marc-Andre Fleury has a 2.13 GAA and .933 save percentage to start this season.

Shea Weber, MON vs. TAM ($21): Weber had an injury-shortened season last year, but he still managed 33 points. However, only six of those came on the power play. It'll be hard for him to score with the extra man in this one, as the Lightning had the league's best penalty kill last year. They also have Andrei Vasilevskiy, who had a 2.40 GAA and .925 save percentage last season.
