DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are three games in the NHL on Monday, but all three feature intriguing storylines with playoff implications. The marquee matchup is the battle of Pennsylvania between the Penguins and Flyers in Philadelphia, and the Sharks visit the Canucks in a Pacific Division tilt. The reeling Capitals also host the Kings, in what should be a favorable matchup for Washington.

GOALIE

Martin Jones, SJ at VAN ($8,000): The veteran enters rested and sporting a four-game winning streak, including a .939 save percentage through his past three contests. The Canucks also bring a below-average offense to the table with 3.03 goals while generating the fifth lowest high-danger scoring chances (10.08) per 60 minutes at home this season.

CENTER

Claude Giroux, PHI vs. PIT ($6,700): This is a reasonable price for Giroux. He's recorded an elite 3.39 points per 60 minutes over the past two seasons and has 24 goals and 44 assists through 63 career games against the Pens, including the postseason. It should also prove to be a soft matchup with Pittsburgh allowing 4.04 goals per hour through its past 12 contests.

Logan Couture, SJ at VAN ($6,000): It's been an underwhelming stretch for Couture with just four tallies, three helpers and one multi-point showing through his past 13 contests. However, the spell of mediocrity is built into his salary, and he's still receiving top-line minutes and skating with the No. 1 power-play unit.

WING

Alex Ovechkin, WAS vs. LA ($7,400): No. 8 hasn't found the back of the net in four games and his salary has dropped as a result. Ovechkin has buoyed his value during the goal drought with four helpers and 15 shots, and Los Angeles is in a daunting spot playing the final contest of a six-game road trip that's spanned just 10 days.

Jake Guentzel, PIT at PHI ($5,900): In the midst of a career year, Guentzel has thrived skating with center Sidney Crosby more frequently. The duo has combined for a rock-solid 4.22 goals and 15.67 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes while also driving possession with a 56.9 Corsi For percentage at five-on-five.

Travis Konecny, PHI vs. PIT ($4,800): As noted, the Penguins have been struggling defensively for a prolonged stretch, and Konecny has found an offensive groove of late with four goals, five assists, four power-play points and 14 shots through his past eight contests. There's also notable value in the asking price.

DEFENSE

Kris Letang, PIT at PHI ($5,500): Considering Letang hasn't gone consecutive games without a point since mid-December, he definitely stands out from this shallow defense pool. The veteran has collected 22 points -- five goals -- through his past 24 games to improve to a high-end 1.77 points per 60 minutes over the past three seasons. Additionally, with 62 shots and 49 blocks through the 24-game span, he also offers a high floor.

Dmitry Orlov, WAS vs. LA ($3,000): With the highlighted soft matchup against Los Angeles, look for Orlov to have a solid showing. He obviously opens up cap space to spend up at other positions while providing a modest baseline in the peripheral categories -- the Russian has collected four points, 17 shots and 19 blocks with an average of 21:29 of ice time through his past 12 outings.
