DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

Sunday's featured contests at DraftKings consist of five games beginning with the 5PM ET Dallas-Detroit and Islanders-Hurricanes tilts.

GOALIE

Cam Talbot, EDM at CHI ($7,200): The Edmonton backstop has allowed two goals or fewer in four of his past six outings. And while the Oilers are ripe for a letdown showing after topping Nashville on Saturday, this is a cushy salary for Talbot. Edmonton has allowed the fifth-fewest high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes at five-on-five with 9.38, and the Blackhawks are also on the second leg of a back-to-back set after losing 7-3 to St. Louis on Saturday.

CENTER

Logan Couture, SJ at ANA ($6,200): This is a soft matchup with the Ducks allowing the most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes in the league with 15.22 and sporting a league-low 41.1 Corsi For percentage at even strength. Couture also enters hot, registering four goals, five assists, 18 shots and seven blocked shots through his past five contests.

Leon Draisaitl, EDM at CHI ($5,700): A boom-or-bust contributor to start the season, Draisaitl has six goals, four assists and four multi-point showings through the first nine games of the season. Often chasing high-floor players is advised in a shallow player pool, but the risk is already built into the center's manageable salary. Chicago is also far from a defensive juggernaut with 3.66 goals and 14.56 high-danger scoring chances allowed per 60 minutes.

WING

Jamie Benn, DAL at DET ($7,000): There's nothing scary about a date with the 1-7-2 Red Wings, and Benn enters in dire need of a favorable matchup. The veteran has missed the scoresheet in five consecutive games despite being on the ice for a respectable 13.33 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes. His salary does remain steep, so there's still a chance his ownership is lower than it should be.

Teuvo Teravainen, CAR vs. NYI ($6,500): Dating back to the beginning of last season, Teravainen has combined with linemate – and countryman – Sebastian Aho for 4.38 goals and 15.92 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes. The duo has been even better to start this year, and the Islanders enter playing their second road game in consecutive days.

Tyler Bertuzzi, DET vs. DAL ($3,900): Skating with Dylan Larkin in all situations – including on the No. 1 power-play unit – is a huge boost to Bertuzzi's fantasy value. The pair have combined for 3.85 goals per 60 minutes dating back to last season, and Dallas hasn't been a daunting matchup with a middle-of-the-pack 11.33 high-danger scoring chances against per hour.

DEFENSE

Erik Karlsson, SJ at ANA ($5,700): While the veteran has notched an assist in consecutive contests, he's also failed to register a shot and has only one block during the two-game point streak. The lack of peripheral coverage is uncharacteristic, and so is Karlsson's current salary. As noted, this is also a nice matchup for San Jose.

Ryan Pulock, NYI at CAR ($3,600): After posting a third-ranked 8.82 shots per 60 minutes among regular defensemen last season, Pulock's current lone assist and 18 shots are underwhelming totals through nine contests – especially since he's now gone eight consecutive games without a point. Still, the 24-year-old defenseman continues to log meaningful minutes at 22:58 per night and skates with the No. 2 power-play unit, so he sets up as an upside play at this price point.
