However, the 2021 second-round pick went on to suffer a significant ankle injury Week 9, limiting him to play in just three of New Orleans' final eight games. Werner still put up a career-best season in 2022, despite making three fewer appearances than his rookie season. After fellow off-ball linebacker Kaden Elliss left in free agency this offseason, Werner should headline the Saints' relatively thin linebacking corps alongside four-time All-Pro middle linebacker Demario Davis. Werner was selected by the Saints in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft to support All-Pro linebacker Demario Davis. Werner quickly worked his way up the linebacker depth chart and finished his rookie season with 62 tackles. He led the NFL with 53 solo tackles and 74 total tackles through nine games in the 2022 season before going down with ankle injury Week 9 against the Ravens. The injury forced Werner to miss five games and severely limited his mobility when he did suit up, but he was able to finish the season with 56 solo tackles, second on the team behind safety Tyrann Mathieu. Rose notes that Werner has yet to register a sack in his two-year NFL career and can make the jump to stardom if he can utilize his strong instincts to become a better playmaker on defense.
