2023 Fantasy Outlook
McKinney's 2022 campaign was marred by a hand injury suffered during the Giants' bye week. The safety missed seven contests but was able to return at the end of the season and played on every defensive snap during New York's two-game playoff run. McKinney tallied 16 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble over those two games, showcasing his considerable talent. The Alabama product is in the final year of his rookie deal and may have something to prove after last year's injury. McKinney emerged as a rising star in 2021 and will look to recapture that magic during the coming campaign. Read Past Outlooks

The Packers and McKinney agreed to terms on a four-year, $68 million contract Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
McKinney is coming off a career-best 116 tackles with the Giants in 2023, supplementing that total with three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and 0.5 sacks in 17 contests. With Darnell Savage moving on to the Jaguars earlier Monday, safety was among the top needs for the Packers this offseason, and McKinney will slot in as the team's new starting free safety.

ANALYSIS
McKinney was not given the franchise tag by the Giants, so he's set to hit the open market March 13. He's coming off a productive season during which he posted 116 tackles with 11 passes defensed and three interceptions. Entering his age-24 campaign, McKinney should receive plenty of interest from teams around the league. Meanwhile, the Eagles are set to part ways with Kevin Byard and are likely to be a key player in the safety market this offseason.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022

2020
McKinney is already one of the league’s top safeties, breaking out in 2021 after missing most of his otherwise productive rookie season with a foot fracture. After racing to 25 tackles on 209 snaps his rookie year — good for a pace of one per 8.4 snaps — McKinney’s 2021 tackle rate fell to one per 11.8 snaps. If he can cut that down to one every 10 snaps, McKinney could have a memorable IDP showing.
Of the three noteworthy Giants safeties, McKinney probably carries the most risk. He likely can't challenge Jabrill Peppers or Logan Ryan as starters, and any bench player has slim room for error as an IDP. McKinney could be a rare three-down third safety, however, especially since he, Ryan and Peppers are capable of lining up at CB or LB. The three each played more than 70 snaps in Week 17, so the blueprint is already laid out. With 25 tackles and an INT on 209 snaps, McKinney's per-snap production implies he'll provide DB2 utility or better if he remains in a three-down role.
As an accomplished college safety praised for his ability to alternate between safety, slot corner and rover functions, McKinney's worst-case NFL outcome is probably something like Kenny Vaccaro. There's plenty of room for a better outcome than that, though, both because McKinney inherits a productive role and because he posted standout production at Alabama. Antoine Bethea made 110 tackles in 2019 starting opposite Jabrill Peppers, and in 13 games last year McKinney totaled 95 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions as the Crimson Tide's leading tackler. Unfortunately, McKinney suffered a foot fracture during training camp, likely putting him on injured reserve to start his pro career. He isn't expected to play until November or December, if at all this season.
