Works out with Chargers

September 15, 2020
Scarlett worked out with the Chargers on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers brought in Brian Herrien for a tryout as well, and they could be seeking short-term running back depth after Justin Jackson hurt his quadriceps Sunday. Scarlett played nine games with the Pantehrs last season but rushed just four times for nine yards, and if he secures a contract, he'll likely be stuck to a special-teams role.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2019
A fifth-round pick last year, Scarlett played in nine games for the Panthers as rookie, but only garnered four carries. He was waived by the team in August.
Following a suspension for the entire 2017 season, Scarlett was reinstated by Florida ahead of his junior campaign, finishing with 131 rushes for 776 yards and five TDs in 13 games. He then declared for the draft and was selected by the Panthers in the fifth round. Despite being a late-round pick, Scarlett finds himself in a decent situation in Carolina, following the team's release of Cameron Artis-Payne. Scarlett is now slated to serve as Christian McCaffrey's primary backup. Considering the All-Pro almost never leaves the field, however, his understudy's workload likely will consist of a few spare touches on early downs, which already restricts Scarlett's upside before taking into account his nearly non-existent receiving production in college.
