2023 Fantasy Outlook
Wentz, the second overall pick in the 2016 Draft, started for three different teams over the last three seasons - Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Washington - but after being cut by the Commanders in February, the veteran signal-caller remains unsigned. At this stage, Wentz may have to settle for a backup role in his next locale unless injuries pave the way for the 30-year-old to compete for a No. 1 assignment with another franchise. RANKS
Future uncertain after lone start
Wentz finished the 2023 regular season completing 17 of 24 pass attempts for 163 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and added 17 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
After Matthew Stafford went down with a thumb injury and missed part of Week 8 and all of Week 9, Brett Rypien came in and performed poorly (18-for-38 for 172 yards and an interception), prompting the Rams to take a chance on Wentz. For his part, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 Draft proved up to the task against the 49ers in Week 18, taking the reigns and helping Puka Nacua set the all-time rookie reception and receiving yard marks while turning in nearly as many rushing attempts in one game as he had in eight games with the Commanders in 2022. Wentz still wants to be a starting quarterback heading into his age-31 campaign, and the unrestricted free agent might get one more chance to prove he can helm an offense with the cavalcade of ineffective and injured quarterbacks that littered the NFL landscape in 2023. If that doesn't work out, a return to the Rams to be a quality backup behind Stafford seems like a distinct possibility.

Credit the Colts for needing just one year to cut bait on Wentz — it took the Eagles five years,
after all. Wentz wasn’t necessarily awful for fantasy (QB13), but he was both inefficient (6.9
YPA, 22nd) and inconsistent. He often held the ball too long (136 pressures, 10th); other times
he rushed throws, missing easy completions (or what GM Chris Ballard referred to as “making
the layups”). On attempts of less than 10 yards, he ranked 26th in completion percentage (66.5)
and 28th in on-target percentage (75.9). With the playoffs in sight, losses in the final two games
were the final straw. Washington, though, was desperate enough to trade for Wentz in March.
He has a couple quality targets in Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel, and the team drafted WR
Jahan Dotson 16th overall as a deep threat. Washington also has a decent backfield with
Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. Wentz will need to make a few more of those layups,
though, to increase his fantasy value beyond two-QB leagues.
