Weekly Rankings: Week 2 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update Complete

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Should I start Patrick Mahomes or Eli Manning?"

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights, roughly around 10:00 pm ET. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning.

I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.

Quarterbacks

1.*Patrick Mahomes KC at OAK
Note: Sprained his right ankle in the second quarter against the Jaguars, and the Chiefs appeared to dial it back a little bit afterward, even though Mahomes didn't miss a snap. Full practice Wednesday.
2.*Deshaun Watson HOU vs. JAX
Note: Twice examined in the medical tent during Monday night's win to examine his back. Practiced fully on Wednesday, not on the injury list.
3.Tom Brady NE at MIA

Note: Bruised his wrist against the Titans, but was able to practice Tuesday. Unlimited at Thursday's practice, not on the injury list.
15.*Derek Carr OAK vs. KC
Note: Incredibly efficient in Week 1 against the Broncos. The key? Didn't get hit at all by the Broncos pass rush.
16.*Andy Dalton CIN vs. SF
Note: Threw a whopping 51 passes, leading to a career-high 418 passing yards. With Joe Mixon hurting, that volume may continue this week against the Niners.
17.Philip Rivers LAC at DET
18.*Russell Wilson SEA at PIT
Note: Got hit a whopping nine times by the Bengals.
19.*Jameis Winston TB at CAR
Note: Awful debut against the Niners, though two of his interceptions can be blamed partially on his receivers.
20.Jacoby Brissett IND at TEN
21.Jimmy Garoppolo SF at CIN
22.Kirk Cousins MIN at GB
23.*Gardner Minshew JAC at HOU
Note: Impressive in relief of the injured Nick Foles, averaging 11.0 yards per attempt. The Jaguars acquired Joshua Dobbs from the Steelers to back him up.
24.Kyler Murray ARZ at BAL
25.Marcus Mariota TEN vs. IND
26.Mitchell Trubisky CHI at DEN
27.Matthew Stafford DET vs. LAC
28.Case Keenum WAS vs. DAL

31.Joe Flacco DEN vs. CHI
32.*Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA vs. NE
Note: Sat out the fourth quarter of the blowout loss to the Ravens. He's still set to start this week.
33.*Josh Rosen MIA vs. NE
Note: Saw action in the fourth quarter. Naturally threw an interception on his second snap.
34.*Sam Darnold NYJ vs. CLE

4.Alvin Kamara NO at LAR
5.Nick Chubb CLE at NYJ
6.Leonard Fournette JAC at HOU
7.Dalvin Cook MIN at GB
8.*Mark Ingram BAL vs. ARI
Note: (Shoulder) Limited practice Wednesday. ***Full practice Thursday and Friday. Technically listed as questionable, but that's because 'probable' is no longer an official designation.***
9.David Johnson ARZ at BAL
10.Josh Jacobs OAK vs. KC
11.Derrick Henry TEN vs. IND
12.Chris Carson SEA at PIT
13.*Le'Veon Bell NYJ vs. CLE
Note: Had an MRI on his shoulder on Thursday - the MRI revealed no major damage, and he's day-to-day in advance of Monday night's game. ***Limited practice Friday and Saturday, listed as questionable.***
14.*James Conner PIT vs. SEA
Note: Limited at Wednesday's practice with an illness.
15.Todd Gurley LA vs. NO
16.*Marlon Mack IND at TEN
Note: The only negative to an otherwise great day for Mack was that he had just one target in the passing game.
17.Aaron Jones GB vs. MIN
18.Austin Ekeler LAC at DET
19.*Sony Michel NE at MIA
Note: Awful Week 1 - 14 yards on 15 carries. The good news is that he gets to face Miami this week.
20.Kerryon Johnson DET vs. LAC
21.Damien Williams KC at OAK
22.Devonta Freeman ATL vs. PHI
23.*Joe Mixon CIN vs. SF
Note: Day-to-day with a sprained ankle. Just as concerning, though, is that the Bengals threw 51 times despite leading for much of the game. The OL hasn't opened holes in the running game yet between the preseason and Week 1. Did not practice Wednesday and Thursday. I'll move him back up if he returns to practice Friday, but for now I'm operating under the assumption that he won't play. ***Practiced on Friday - it was officially classified as 'limited' but Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com characterized it as closer to being at full speed. He's a true game-time decision, but he has the intention of playing. So I'm moving him back up.***
24.James White NE at MIA
25.Duke Johnson HOU vs. JAX
26.*Matt Breida SF at CIN

29.*Devin Singletary BUF at NYG
Note: Technically still the backup behind Frank Gore.
30.Malcolm Brown LA vs. NO

Note: Took on a Poor Man's Mark Ingram role Monday night, which was still good enough for a score.
32.Chris Thompson WAS vs. DAL
33.*Miles Sanders PHI at ATL
Note: Only had 25 yards on 11 carries, but had a touchdown called back on a cheesy holding call.
34.*Giovani Bernard CIN vs. SF
Note: Operating under the assumption that Mixon won't play, after Mixon's ankle kept him out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Mixon practiced on Friday after all and suggested that he intends to play. I'm moving Gio back down accordingly.***
35.Kenyan Drake MIA vs. NE
36.*Adrian Peterson WAS vs. DAL
Note: Back in the mix with Derrius Guice dealing with a meniscus injury, after Peterson was a healthy scratch last week. Guice had surgery to repair a torn meniscus and will be out for 6-8 weeks. Peterson will start, with Chris Thompson perhaps taking on a bigger role than he previously had.

39.LeSean McCoy KC at OAK
40.Jordan Howard PHI at ATL
41.Justin Jackson LAC at DET

44.*Ronald Jones TB at CAR
Note: Looked pretty good, with 13 carries for 75 yards.

46.*Peyton Barber TB at CAR
Note: Technically still the starter, in a Frank Gore sort of way.
47.Justice Hill BAL vs. ARI
48.Ito Smith ATL vs. PHI

49.Frank Gore BUF at NYG
50.Rashaad Penny SEA at PIT
51.Rex Burkhead NE at MIA
52.*Ty Montgomery NYJ vs. CLE
Note: Lev Bell had an MRI on his shoulder Thursday and is day-to-day. Even if he plays, Montgomery should get more work this week.

Note: In on 27 plays and had four catches, but had zero carries.

68.*Jalen Richard OAK vs. KC
Note: Only one carry and no receptions in the win Monday night.
69.Damien Harris NE at MIA
70.*Jordan Scarlett CAR vs. TB
Note: So much for the notion that CMC would get a few breaks here-and-there.
71.*Darrell Henderson LA vs. NO
Note: Boy, I was wrong about him being Gurley's handcuff. I wouldn't cut him just yet, as I think he could evolve into the pass-catching back should Gurley ever need to sit, but he'll be hard to keep in leagues with shallow benches.
72.*Dontrell Hilliard CLE at NYJ
Note: Suffered a concussion in the Week 1 loss to the Titans. Missed practice on Thursday. ***Ruled out this week.***
73.*Tevin Coleman SF at CIN
Note: Ruled out this week with a high ankle sprain.
74.*Derrius Guice WAS vs. DAL
Note: Suffered a meniscus injury in his right knee - that's not the knee that he previously tore an ACL. Estimated return is hazy - one source guessed Week 3 is possible. Had surgery to repair a torn meniscus and will be out indefinitely. ***Placed on IR after procedure, so he'll be out at least eight weeks.***

Wide Receivers

1.*DeAndre Hopkins HOU vs. JAX

2.*Julio Jones ATL vs. PHI
Note: Had his left wrist wrapped on Monday. Not on Wednesday's injury report.

22.Alshon Jeffery PHI at ATL
23.*Antonio Brown NE at MIA
Note: Accused of sexual assault. Prior to that, on an unrelated note, coach Bill Belichick said he was uncertain whether Brown would play this week. 24.John Brown BUF at NYG
25.Jamison Crowder NYJ vs. CLE
26.Stefon Diggs MIN at GB
