Brennan Armstrong

Brennan Armstrong

North Carolina State Wolfpack
2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Wolfpack saw their starting quarterback of three years Devin Leary transfer to Kentucky. With the loss of Leary the Wolfpack went out and brought in Armstrong from Virginia. Armstrong had a rough season last year with a new offensive coordinator but has shown immense potential in the past. Prior to last year’s dismal season where Armstrong completed 54.7 percent of his passes for 2,210 yards, seven touchdowns and 12 interceptions, Armstrong set the ACC on fire and was a candidate for conference Player of the Year as he threw for 4,449 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 65.2 percent of his passes. Armstrong will look to find his 2021 form as he will immediately have an upgrade to his offensive line but will deal with an inexperience wide receiver corps in 2023. Read Past Outlooks
Succeeds on ground in final college game
January 3, 2024
Armstrong completed 14 of 28 passes for 164 yards and one interception in Thursday's 28-19 loss to Kansas State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. He also carried 17 times for 121 yards and one touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong likely didn't go out the way he would have liked in the bowl game. While he didn't find much success through the air, completing just half of his 28 pass attempts for 164 yards and an interception, Armstrong did rush for 121 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries to salvage his day from a fantasy perspective. The fifth-year quarterback could never recapture the success he found in 2021 with Virginia when he threw for 4,449 yards and 31 touchdowns, but he could still embark on a professional career.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2021
Armstrong turned in one of the most productive seasons among quarterbacks last season, averaging the second-most fantasy points per game behind only Bailey Zappe. The system was a big factor, though, as Virginia ranked 7th in plays per game and third in passing play percentage. Enter Tony Elliott, Clemson’s former offensive coordinator. Clemson’s 2021 struggles aside, the scheme and philosophical changes at Virginia may result in Armstrong not having the sheer volume of opportunities to produce like he did last year. His best fantasy season may have already happened.
Armstrong commands one of the more fantasy-friendly systems and has dual-threat ability worthy of your attention. Virginia ranked in the top 20 in plays per game and makes the most of his legs, running him 126 times in nine games. He turned those attempts into 552 yards and five touchdowns and his passing production is useful, having thrown 2,117 yards and 18 touchdowns. Virginia has struggled to find a steady running back, so Armstrong’s role as a rusher appears safe. Armstrong is a consistent producer who should be viewed as a Top 12 QB with room for more.
