Friday NFL Notes

Roddy White was diagnosed with a low-ankle sprain, and would apparently be able to play through the injury if this were the regular season. He left Thursday's preseason game in the first quarter and didn't return, but it sounds like he should be ready before Week 1.

Seattle's Zach Miller (foot) was removed from the PUP list Friday, seven months after tearing his left plantar fascia. He didn't have a big role in the passing game last season, but exploded for 142 yards in a playoff loss to the Falcons. Assuming he's healthy, Miller doesn't appear to have much competition for the starting tight end job. The real question is whether he will have an expanded role in a Seattle offense that favors the running game.

Hakeem Nicks (groin) has been practicing and will play in Sunday's preseason game against the Colts. He has a history of nagging injuries, but barring a setback, he should head into his contract year in good health.

Le'Veon Bell returned to practice Friday, after leaving Thursday's practice due to an aggravation of his pre-existing knee injury. It doesn't appear to be anything more than a bruise or general soreness, so the bulky rookie should be fine for Week 1. He's currently listed as a co-starter, along with Isaac Redman, but Bell is the clear favorite to handle most of the workload.

Dwayne Allen (foot) got out of his walking boot Thursday and was spotted playing catch with equipment managers. He's tentatively expected to be ready for Week 1, and with Coby Fleener (concussion) looking healthy, the Colts should have a formidable duo at tight end. Allen was excellent as a traditional tight end in his rookie season, and he's also comfortable in a fullback/h-back role, so the Colts shouldn't have any issues with using a two-tight end base formation.

Felix Jones hurt his ribs during Thursday's preseason game, and the extent of the injury is unknown. The former first-round pick is on the roster bubble, while Chris Polk and Bryce Brown are competing for the No. 2 running back spot behind LeSean McCoy. Brown was held out of Thursday's game with a seemingly minor quad injury, and Polk carried five times for 24 yards but also fumbled. Brown is probably ahead of Polk, but it won't be shocking if Polk ultimately wins out.
