Epic Quarterback Fail

As I mentioned in response to one of  Liss' posts last week, my quarterback situation in my home league is exceptionally grim. But yesterday it became ugly to the point of comedy... I just had to share.

First off: how did I get to this position? To make a long story short... my home league made the decision this year to switch to a "start two quarterbacks" format. The discussion happened via e-mail, while I was on vacation and actively trying to ignore the computer as much as possible. I went into our draft aiming to get one top quarterback and then nab a bunch of playmakers at RB and WR... and didn't realize I needed a second starting QB (and, by extension, a third bench QB for bye weeks) until the draft was nearly over. At that point I was well set with Peyton Manning as my QB1, but for a QB2 I was stuck with Kerry Collins... and had to hit the waiver wire for a QB3.

Week 6 was Manning's bye, which meant I was scrambling for quarterback options... but there was very little available on the wire. I went into yesterday with four active quarterbacks on my roster: Collins, Mark Sanchez (who I picked up after the draft as my QB3), Derek Anderson and Daunte Culpepper. You know how that turned out... Anderson tallied 3.97 points, and was by far the most successful QB on my team. My two starters, Sanchez (-5.43) and  Collins (-4.33), actually cost me points yesterday -- if I had left my quarterback slots empty I'd be better off. Remarkably, I still have a shot to win this week, though I'll need a really big night from Eddie Royal in the Monday nighter.

Yeah, I should have read all the e-mails while I was away. It's my own fault. I offer the anecdote only as an explanation -- and a cautionary tale.
