2024 Fantasy Outlook
After missing all of 2022 due to elbow surgery, Anderson inked a deal with Atlanta last November and made their Opening Day bullpen after a terrific spring. With high leverage pedigree and an outstanding curveball (40.4% whiff rate), the 33-year-old posted a 0.73 WHIP and 18:1 K:BB over his first 13.2 innings. Anderson was fairly consistent in a setup role, posting 15 holds, 4 wins and a save across 35 appearances (35.2 innings) before a shoulder strain put an early end to his season. The right-hander has been riddled with injuries during his career, but has always demonstrated upside when healthy. Anderson was recently traded to Kansas City, where he will likely compete for closing duties if he can stay on the field. Read Past Outlooks
Settling in with new team
Anderson has allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts over three Cactus League innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was traded from Atlanta to Kansas City in November. The 33-year-old right-hander has nine saves and 37 holds under his belt over four major-league campaigns, having missed 2022 after undergoing internal brace surgery on his elbow. Anderson figures to be in the high-leverage mix for the Royals this season, though bullpen roles are up for grabs after the team's aggressive remodeling of its bullpen in the offseason.

Brad Johnson looks at the American League Central, and in Cleveland, he's been won over by Shane Bieber, whose once rather-average stuff has improved significantly.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could return to big role
Anderson, on the injured list with an elbow issue, has been dominating Triple-A hitters during his rehab assignment and should quickly assume a high-leverage role once activated.
ANALYSIS
In his last three appearances with Triple-A Durham, the righty has five strikeouts in three perfect innings. Having logged 8.2 total innings at that level, Anderson appears days away from returning to the Rays and making his 2021 debut. He's been impressive in his last two big-league seasons, posting a 2.77 ERA and 136:21 K:BB with 22 holds and seven saves in 81.1 total innings. Manager Kevin Cash might ease Anderson into action upon activation, but the 31-year-old should compete with Andrew Kittredge and others for saves over the final few weeks of the regular season.

Anderson underwent an internal brace procedure on his pitching elbow in October of 2021 and had his rehab assignment in 2022 delayed due to continued elbow soreness. He never made it back with the Rays, getting shut down late in the year because of plantar fasciitis. Tampa Bay wound up cutting him loose and Anderson quickly latched on with the Braves. Anderson had a run of being one of the most dominant relievers in the game before injuries began to sabotage him in 2021. Lingering questions about his health and potential effectiveness remain, but he's certainly one to keep an eye on.
