Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Jon Lester, CHC at LAD ($52): The Giants' Matt Moore showed last Thursday what lefties are capable of doing to the Dodgers, coming within an out of a no-hitter. It wasn't exactly an outlier, as southpaws have allowed a .287 wOBA and posted a 21.2 percent strikeout rate against the Dodgers. Lester has also scored between 20 and 31 fantasy points in his last four starts, with three victories and 29 strikeouts over that span. He also thoroughly dominated this same squad back on June 1, scoring a season-high 42.2 fantasy points on the strength of a complete-game, 10-strikeout effort.

Doug Fister, HOU vs. TB ($35): Fister takes aim at a Rays squad that has struck out at a 23.8 percent rate against right-handed pitching, and an even higher 27.5 percent over the last seven days, second-most in the majors over that span. Fister also scored a season-high 33 fantasy points in his last start versus the Pirates and has a 2-1 record and 3.00 ERA over his last five starts.

CATCHER

Wilson Ramos, WAS vs. COL ($13): Ramos comes at a significant discount Sunday and draws Rockies starter Chad Bettis and his 13 homers and .353 wOBA surrendered to right-handed hitters. Bettis has also struggled over his last four starts, allowing a .407 wOBA and posting a 6.16 ERA and 5.93 xFIP over that span. Ramos has a .372 wOBA against right-handed pitching at Nationals Park this season, along with a 19.4 percent HR/FB rate and 36.1 percent hard contact rate.

FIRST BASE

Joey Votto, CIN at ARI ($25) Diamondbacks starter Archie Bradley has given up a massive .411 wOBA to left-handed hitters at Chase Field, along with a bloated 2.33 HR/9 and 41.9 percent hard contact rate. Particularly notable in Votto's case is Bradley's jaw-dropping 6.52 BB/9 rate at home against lefty hitters, which dovetails favorably for fantasy purposes with Votto's 20.3 percent walk rate against right-handed pitching on the road. The Reds first baseman also boasts a .429 wOBA, .219 ISO and 40.8 percent hard contact rate against righty arms outside of Great American Ballpark, as well as a .418 batting average, .462 wOBA and .633 slugging percentage over his last 23 games.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL at NYY ($10): The Orioles slugger has a .330 wOBA against southpaws on the road, while Yankees starter CC Sabathia has surrendered a .338 wOBA to righty bats at Yankee Stadium, and 13 homers overall to that handedness. While Sabathia is certainly capable of turning it on in any given start, Schoop's price guarantees minimal risk and provides flexibility elsewhere.

THIRD BASE

Trevor Plouffe, MIN at TOR ($7): Speaking of bargains, Plouffe checks in at the minimum despite having gone deep in each of his last two games. He's also tagged right-handed pitching for five of his eight homers on the season, while Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey has given up a .334 wOBA and 14 round-trippers to righty bats, along with a 33.3 percent hard contact rate to them at Rogers Centre.

SHORTSTOP

Xander Bogaerts, BOS vs. KC ($12): Bogaerts has tallied a .383 wOBA at Fenway Park, including a .357 figure against right-handed pitching. He's also coming off a 20-fantasy point performance Saturday that included his 15th homer, 12 of which have come against right-handed pitchers. Royals starter Yordano Ventura has yielded a .339 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road, along with a 33.1 percent hard contact rate and 18.2 HR/FB rate.

OUTFIELD

Michael Saunders, TOR vs. MIN ($12): Saunders represents a cost-conscious way to exploit Twins starter Kyle Gibson, who yields a ridiculous .425 wOBA, .607 slugging percentage and 2.29 HR/9 rate to left-handed hitters outside of Target Field. Meanwhile, Saunders has a .392 wOBA, .244 ISO, 21.9 percent HR/FB rate and 38.5 percent hard contact rate at Rogers Centre against right-handed pitchers and provides considerable upside at a bargain price.

Nelson Cruz, SEA at CWS ($20): There's a lefty on the mound Sunday, meaning it's time to tee up Cruz. The renowned lefty masher has a .403 wOBA, .327 ISO and 37.5 percent hard contact rate against southpaws, along with 14 homers. White Sox starter Carlos Rodon has been very solid over his last four starts, but he has yielded a .342 wOBA to right-handed hitters at home, and has given up 16 of his 17 homers on the season to that handedness.

Dexter Fowler, CHC at LAD ($14): Fowler draws Dodgers spot starter Brock Stewart, who's given up a .452 wOBA to left-handed hitters. The switch-hitting Fowler has posted a .359 wOBA against righties, along with a .331 wOBA over his last 22 games.
