FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Welcome back to another edition of our FanDuel value picks for Wednesday, March 13. Tonight's contests include 12 games, with a wide variety of players to choose from. As usual, be sure to check last minute lineup changes and check in on any players with day-to-day injuries. Below are the guys that should provide good value for their current price tag.

Starting Pitcher:

Cole Hamels, $9,400 - Hamels has been very solid up to this point as usual. He enters Wednesday's game with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He's struck out 46 batters over 44 innings pitched on his way to 2-3 record. Hamels' issue is that he doesn't get any run support. In seven starts, the Phillies have only scored four runs once for their ace and only hit the three run mark in two other starts. The Phillies will play at home tonight and if they can provide some support, Hamels should have a big night.

Catcher:

Evan Gattis, $3,400 - It's tough to find solid power production out of the catcher position these days, and Gattis provides just that. Despite a brutal .179 average, Gattis has six long balls and 18 RBI over 112 at-bats up to this point. It's never too early to look at a players pace and if Gattis keeps his up, he'll end up with over 30 home runs to go along with nearly 100 RBI. That's great production from the catcher spot. The Astros get soft tossing Tim Hudson and the Giants at home on Wednesday which means Gattis could be blasting balls towards the really short porch in left field.

First Base:

Jose Abreu, $3,500 - Abreu's line so far: .288 average, six home runs, 20 RBI, with 15 runs scored. His line is similar to the one above, but it includes a .288 average. Abreu is on track for a big year in season number two and he gets a matchup with the struggling Brewers at hitter-friendly Miller Park on Wednesday.

Second Base:

DJ LeMahieu, $2,900 - LeMahieu has been a pleasant surprise for the Rockies so far this year, entering Wednesday's game with a .340 and 14 RBI. He's only hit one home run up to this point and has never been much of a power threat, but when you put the ball in play as much as he does, good things can happen. The Rockies will get left-hander Hector Santiago on Wednesday.

Third Base:

Todd Frazier, $3,600 - Frazier hit yet another Home run on Tuesday which put him in a tie with Bryce Harper for the NL lead at 11. He's scored 23 runs and driven in 21 over just 123 at-bats, which puts Frazier on pace for a monster season. The .236 average is a little suspect but with the way he's driving balls out of the park, we can live with it. He'll get a juicy matchup against Braves left-hander Eric Stults on Wednesday who enters this contest with a 4.84 ERA.

Shortstop:

Jean Segura, $2,600 - Segura has bounced back nicely so far, after an awful season in 2014. His .262 average should rise over the course of the year so we're not too worried about that up to this point. He's scored 14 runs and driven in 12 to go along with two long balls and six stolen bases. Segura comes in at just $2,600 which is a low end price tag for the shortstop position. He has the ability to exceed that level of production on any given night.

Outfield:

Joc Pederson, $4,300 - Pederson has been quite arguably the biggest surprises in the National League so far this season. The young center-fielder has nine home runs in just 98 at-bats to go along with 23 runs scored and 20 RBI. He's clearly comfortable and there's no doubt he's seeing the ball well so far this season. The Dodgers get Jarred Cosart of the Marlins on Wednesday who comes in with a 1-3 record, and tends to pitch to contact. (20 K's/34.1 innings pitched). Pederson should enjoy this matchup.

Matt Kemp, $3,100 - Kemp has seemed to enjoy the short move over to San Diego so far as he's settled into a powerful Padres lineup very nicely. Kemp has just one home run up to this point but that might be due to the fact that he's hitting in pitcher friendly Petco Park during half of his games. He's scored 20 runs and driven in 21 to go along with five stolen bases. Kemp should have a good night on Wednesday against the Mariners.

Colby Rasmus, $2,900 - If your budget is hurting and you need a lower end option for an outfielder, I really like Rasmus tonight. He gets the soft tossing right-hander in Tim Hudson on Wednesday in Houston. Rasmus is only batting .232 and he's never really been a high average guy, however, he has blasted six home runs and driven in 12 runs up to this point to go along with 15 runs scored. He tends to strikeout a lot, but the fact that he's facing Hudson, should help the cause tonight. This won't be a popular pick but sometimes that's the idea in the world of daily fantasy contests. Take the guys that most others won't, and it could payoff.
