Out for season
RAdelaide Crows
Knee
August 17, 2021
O'Brien (knee) has been ruled out for the 2021 season.
ANALYSIS
O'Brien picked up a knee injury before Round 22 and will miss the final two rounds of Adelaide's season. While the first half of the season wasn't the best showing from O'Brien, he picked up his pace by the end of the year and still proved he's one of the top ruckmen in the league, finishing with 29.4 hitouts per game.

Out with knee injury
RAdelaide Crows
Knee
August 10, 2021
O'Brien will miss Round 22 against Melbourne with a hyperextended knee, according to Head of Football Adam Kelly. "Pleasingly he will not require surgery and is expected to recover fully but that may not be in time for the Round 23 clash with North Melbourne."
ANALYSIS
O'Brien had found his game at the end of July but now has an injury concern to deal with while there's just a couple of weeks left in the season. Given the quotes from club management, O'Brien's status is currently doubtful through the end of August.
Dominant despite loss
RAdelaide Crows
July 31, 2021
O'Brien logged 19 disposals (seven kicks, 12 handballs), completed 44 hitouts and recorded six marks and six tackles during Saturday's 105-56 loss to the Western Bulldogs in Round 20.
ANALYSIS
O'Brien dominated his ruck matchup by some distance and led his team in fantasy scoring even though they had their score nearly doubled on the contest. While much of the season hasn't gone as well, O'Brien is in better form of late with two games over 100 fantasy points scored over Rounds 19 and 20.
Does better in loss
RAdelaide Crows
June 5, 2021
O'Brien recorded 19 disposals (10 kicks, nine handballs), made seven marks and logged 27 hitouts during Saturday's 78-73 loss to Collingwood in Round 12.
ANALYSIS
O'Brien hasn't exactly been the most valuable ruck in fantasy this season, but his past two rounds have seen him record 97 and 11 fantasy points, respectively. With some of the bigger names out injured in the short-term, O'Brien has a perfect chance to step up and fill the gap across the league.
Strong in win
RAdelaide Crows
April 11, 2021
O'Brien scored one goal to go with 24 disposals (seven kicks, 17 handballs), eight marks made and 31 hitouts recorded during Sunday's 109-68 win over North Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
O'Brien actually recorded fewer hitouts in this match than in Round 3, but he upped his disposal, mark and tackling numbers to top 130 fantasy points for the first time this season. As long as he stays above 20 disposals recorded per match, look for O'Brien to routinely be one of the most valuable rucks available.
Strong finish to season
RAdelaide Crows
September 19, 2020
O'Brien collected 19 disposals (eight kicks, 11 handballs) to go with seven marks made and 29 hitouts completed during Saturday's 77-33 loss to Richmond.
ANALYSIS
O'Brien won another ruck battle to finish the season but there's still little way to make up the difference against a vastly better attack. With the excellent finish to the season despite ending up in last place, O'Brien showed why he's one of the most productive ruckmen in the premiership. If the rest of the team can play as well as they did in the last month, O'Brien will be a key part of a productive group next season.
